As the first full-time marketer working for the journal, I develop and manage the marketing and communications plan for this government-funded, environmental health publication.


 CONTENT STRATEGY

Research, create and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy that includes a revised site taxonomy, fresh page content and a broader, more visual approach to social media. 

  • Compile and analyze the journal’s current footprint using Google Analytics, social media data and Altmetric Explorer
  • Research competitor sites, social media channels, data and marketing tactics
  • Interview key stakeholders to understand overall goals, audiences, value proposition, history, strengths, successes and pain points
  • Provide specific website, social media and other strategic and tactical recommendations

WEBSITE

  • Redesign site taxonomy prior to new site launch on the Atypon Literatum platform
  • Collaborate with News Editor to create new page content to emphasize EHP‘s unique value propositions

SOCIAL MEDIA

  • Revamp social media program to include a wider variety of content, graphics to reinforce strategic messaging, author engagement and tagging
  • Create social media planning calendar to facilitate advance, detailed scheduling, encourage team participation and collaboration
  • Apply consistent branding and naming convention to all files and images 
  • Research related observances, events and hashtags
  • Follow a wider variety of authors and influencers on social media, and share their content when applicable

EMAIL

  • Create html emails in Mailchimp to communicate journal news and information to NIEHS community via ALL Hands emails
  • Design emails to share journal news, curated collections and other offerings with internal stakeholders including authors, associate editors and the larger EHP Community
  • Develop list and promotional html emails to ensure attendance at EHP‘s first Strategic Planning Summit

CONFERENCE AND EVENT PROMOTION

  • Promote EHP staff and community attendance and participation at scientific and publishing industry conferences via site announcements and social media.
  • Create promotional materials including flyers, social media content and emails to secure attendees for EHP‘s inaugural, virtual Strategic Planning Summit.

PROCESS DESIGN AND IMPROVEMENT/PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Develop Jira ticketing system that integrates with suite of processes and specifications on Confluence to streamline and enhance project organization and encourage cross team communication
  • Create internal SharePoint site to serve as portal for marketing project coordination; document and image storage and Best Practice resource hub.
  • Customize Extensis photo repository to record and store purchased images and all related information.

RECRUITMENT MARKETING/STAFFING PROMOTION

  • Successfully promote and recruit for multiple editor roles using integrated campaigns that include ad placement on society websites, site announcements, and robust social media campaigns.

AD/ARTICLE PLACEMENT

  • Secure and coordinate long-form written articles and announcements in NIEHS newsletters including the Environmental Factor (eFactor) newsletter, Partnerships for Environmental Public Health (PEPH) newsletter, and the Global Environmental Health (GEH) newsletter.
  • Coordinate external paid and free ad placements on external association sites

LIAISON BETWEEN PRODUCTION AND EDITORIAL TEAMS

  • Coordinate editorial and production deliverables while keeping leadership apprised of project progress and statuses.

INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

  • Build Yammer channel to enhance team communications among team members and share upcoming journal news and campaigns 
  • Develop intranet on Confluence that includes cross-team standard operating processes and procedures
  • Create pages for onboarding new marketing team members that include links to important resources, contact information, and more.
